Historical records attest that this house, located in Cortemilia’s oldest square, was built by a nobleman to have his beloved in marriage.
Its construction dates back to the years around 1480. In the 18th century it was purchased by the Molinari family from the Stresa area, who still own it today.
In fact, the Piazza overlooked by the house is named after Oscar Molinari, a local hero and distinguished aviator who commanded the Royal Air Force’s aerobatic patrol in the years leading up to World War II.
The Molinari House has some notable works of art: on the entrance door a fresco (Madonna and Child) attributable to Macrino d’Alba or his school (15th cent.); a bas-relief from the late 15th century depicting the Annunciation; on the side facing the side street, a valuable Renaissance sandstone portal (15th/16th cent.) with two medallions placed on either side of the arch, depicting, according to authoritative interpretations, the Roman emperors Servius Sulpicius Galba and Nero.
The portion for sale of this building is elevated on three floors above ground, has a total gross floor area of about 530 square meters, and is in need of renovation.
On the ground floor entrance hall, two lounges, two rooms for cellar use, two-flight stairwell giving access to the upper floors.
The second floor features an atrium, two lounges and four rooms.
The second floor, once reserved for servants, has a hallway and two lounges.
